Aloha Club Members!

I have learned that your club will again visit Hawaii this year in November. That's is wonderful! I also just learned that although Pam Curtis was not able to schedule a trip over this year, she has managed to make last minute arrangements and will be flying over with her husband, Wayne, for four days on November 9th. That's really great news! Please accept my invitation to come in to Waikiki and shop at any of our ABC Stores. Be sure to mention to the sales clerk that you are from the Hawaiian Surf Club of San Onofre and traveling with Pam Curtis. If possible, I will try to arrange a free paper lei for each of you. Have a terrific vacation while you're here, and be sure to stop by and say hello.

Having just spoken with Joe Kahapea and Gary Jenkins, I would like to send my Aloha and best wishes on behalf of the entire Hawaiian Surf Club to one of our beloved members, Ray Mayo, for a complete and speedy recovery. Aloha and Mahalo,
I just wanted to thank Ed and the membership for their generous contribution to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific.
I didn't get a chance to let everyone know what the money will do. As you know the AOP is a non-profit organization like the HSC.
The mission of the Aquarium is simply "To instill a sense of wonder, respect and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean and its inhabitants."
Through education this is possible, educating the children to protect the ocean we all love to play in. The young students that visit the Aquarium daily
are the next generation that will be responsible to taking care of our environment. If you know me you know how passionate I am about the Aquarium and
the education it offers to everyone. The only way the oceans will be saved is to educate young and old of the importantance of the ocean not only for SURFING
but for our livelihood. I have contributed over 1700 hours totaling over $26,000 in wages saved by the Aquarium. I consider myself very lucky to be able to be a part
of such a wonderful organization and to be a part of the most wonderful group of friends. I consider all of you, my family.

Dear Hawaiian Surf Club,

I just wanted to say how disappointed we were to hear that our dear friend Pam Curtis, will not be accompanying you on your annual visit this year. Her aloha spirit, and love of the islands, not to mention her dedicated drive to help us make our 4th quarter revenue objectives last year, touched our hearts considerably. With this in mind, we would like to bring ABC Stores to you. Please visit us at www.abcstores.com! Aloha Paul,
Last night, my dream became a reality. The poi has been made and
it was great!
If you recall, the project was put on hold, pending the procurement of some
better Taro. Well, last night, under the influance of some excellent Vino, we
decided that the best Taro is
whatever Taro happens to be on hand and we moved forward with
the project.
It was touch and go for a while but, the end result was a small
batch of edible poi. It really was good. Even my old dog liked it but, we
couldn't convince our wives to eat it. They didn't trust us.
We photographed the entire process for you and as soon as the film is
developed, I will send you the pictures. Listed below are some of the lessons I
learned.
Tip 1 : don't use sandpaper to scrub the roots.
Tip 2: do not allow yourself to be distracted by the prize fight
on TV
Tip 3: the more help you have the better
Tip 4: the same for wine
Tip 5: keep at least one dog handy for the clean-up

It sure is tough to clean up the mess left over from a poi making.
It is also hard to wash it off your face. I accidentally smeared
some all over my face (eyebrows and mustache included).
I am now a poi making expert so, feel free to recommend me as a source of
information for those in need.
We didn't go surfing. I had kind of a hard time getting up this morning. Kit and
Kabuttle didn't go either.
Oh well, there is always next weekend.
The FDW is going well. I hope you enjoyed Fathers Day as much as I.
Mahalo to you and Auntu Hoku.
See you later. . .

Aloha, and Mahalo Nui! We did get tickets to the luau, with much thanks to
you for corresponding with me by e-mail and your having put us on the list
for tickets that Saturday. The surfer band (the one with
guitars and Dick Dale-type guitar music) that played in the beginning of the
show played great music that made me want to jump up and down and
DANCE--the
mood was much like going to a highschool prom. I did enjoy the day's events
being on the lawn of the recreation center. It
was one of the most pleasant Hawaiian events I've attended because I really
cherish the small town feeling of San Clemente and being able to park on the
streets without paying meters, etc. It was fun that people and children
would just join in dancing on the grass without it all being a formal
presentation. On Sunday, the day after the luau, I was at Old Man's Beach
area at San Onfre State Beach and walked
down to where your Surf Club hangs out and met a couple of your members. I
was hoping to learn how to make the ribbon leis which Kela Miller brought
with her from Hawaii. She said she would be teaching how to make these leis
at the beach that afternoon. Unfortunately, she
hadn't arrived when I was there, and we left the beach early in the day to
go to a barbecue at someone's house. I didn't get the chance to meet Kela
and learn the technique. I hope to some day learn how from her. She was
terrific! Thanks for such a wonderful time.

Aloha everyone,
I just experienced the web page for the Hawaiian Surf Club.
My husband, "Mouse" served as President in 1994 and 1995 the year after
Kalani
and Frank. Mouse is very honored to be an honory member of this
family and club and I would like to ask on his behalf that his name be changed

on the Web page to read "Mouse" Richey. The Hawaiian Surf Club, friends
and family
only know him as "Mouse" a nick name his mother gave to him as a young
boy.

What a nice example of fellowship, but then anyone who knows the feeling of
O"Hana would understand that fellowship is what the Hawaiian culture is all
about. I just read something that our President, and friend gave me. It defines
the word Ha'wai'i. Ha being the breath (or air). Wai being the water
(embodiment). And I, being the creator. The point is. The spirit is within us all
to be shared by us all. And I am so very proud to be part of you. Even if you (
and you know whom your are, Just happen to jump on the shoulder of that
ever so sweet of a wave.) ALOHA NUI LOA TO ALL MY HSC FAMILY.... HAL
